Gandalf the wizard from “The Hobbit” speaks to a Hobbit called Bilbo. He says, “I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging, and it’s very difficult to find anyone.” Truth be told, not many of us are up for an adventure especially if it’s one that’s going to last for more than a few hours, and we don’t know where it will take us. This Sunday we will be looking at a few people who were called to set out on an adventure. One of them is a young girl Esther, who was about 14 years old. This wasn’t an adventure she chose, but rather like most great adventures, it was one that chose her. In fact, like most of us, perhaps she didn’t think that she had much to offer.
Following Christ is not about staying safe or routine. It’s an invitation to join in an adventure of a life time. It’s an adventure that may lead us into danger, or just around the corner. It could take us to places we’ve never been, or just to work or school. We may not know it, but the life we lead is no ordinary life, It’s truly an adventure of a lifetime, and we don’t know what’s around the next corner. Like Gandalf, God is the one saying, “I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging.” He makes a promise … He will never give up on us.” Will you join Him?
