Up until 2013, we wanted to have pictures showing where we were, and if we were in the picture, someone else had taken it. Today we want photos not of where we were, but of where we are, and what we’re doing. Using our phone, we can take pictures of ourselves without relying on anyone else. In a sense, we want to be a fly on the wall of our own life, “Looking In On Life.” observing our life in action.
While this is somewhat Narcissistic, (from the Greek Myth where Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection), it can also be healthy, looking in on our life, as a form of self evaluation. Comparing what we say and think with what we do.
There is more to life than what we can see, taste, smell and touch. We are called to look beyond what is happening to us and see what God is doing through us.
