Fools and their Stuff!

Our Sermons

Our passage from Luke this morning is brought about when a man in the crowd around Jesus says “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me”.  For whatever reason this man was feeling cheated by his older brother.  He wanted Jesus to act as Probate Judge after all Moses had done long, long before. However Jesus wouldn’t.

Did Jesus see that clearly the issue was not justice but greed, greed pure and simple.  Jesus said “take care, be on your guard against all kinds of greed’.  He did didn’t he?

The 10th Commandment in the ancient translation of the King James uses the word covet.  You won’t find covetousness in a word search but a teacher of mine said coveting was “wanting more  of what you already have enough of.”
