Encountering God in the Hard Times

Our Sermons

Rev. Jim Johnson is back with the second part of his series “Encountering God”.
I remember camping when our kids were fairly young. We managed to get one of the last sites in the camp ground and it looked gorgeous. There were enough trees to make it pretty private, a great looking fire pit and we felt blessed at having this site. The ground we were on seemed to be pretty flat … well except for the road, it was a little higher than the site itself, but that should be ok.  Shortly after we had set up camp, it began to rain … and it rained hard. The entrance to our site quickly changed from a gentle slope to a raging river. This perfect site was a disaster. I donned my poncho, with shovel in hand I headed out in the storm to dig a trench around the tent, and cook supper. how could God have let this happen? Why didn’t He make sure the last camping site was the best?
It’s easy to follow Jesus when the sun is out and things are going well. But when the rain  starts and the storms of life hit, and we begin to feel overwhelmed, we lose focus. We have a tendency to take our eyes off of Jesus and begin to focus on the trouble, the problem, the storm, it can leave us wondering where is God?
This week we’ll be taking a look at “Encountering God In The Hard Times.”
