Matthew 26:36-39 (NIV)
Jesus in the Garden Gethsemane
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Is there a battle going on within yourself as we go further into this social distancing? Are you saying to yourself “I really want to go out and meet up with friends for coffee? Perhaps, it is, “I really need to get back to work … I would even take those annoying co-workers at this point!” Are you feeling sorrowful and troubled?
Introverts, I suspect you are enjoying the quiet time. Extroverts, you are chomping at the bit to get out and socialize.
This is not what we want, just as Christ did not want to go to the cross. He went to the cross in obedience to His Father’s will. Our social distancing is our responsibility to our family, friends, neighbours and yes even enemies. Let’s love all of them today by staying away.
