I began my ministry in Northern Ontario in the town of Kapuskasing. One summer, I was asked if I would lead a wedding service at an outfitters in a place called Oba. Now Oba is located on a bush road approximately 70 km south west of Hearst and 107 km north west of Kapuskasing. I was assured that it would be easy to find.
If you’ve ever travelled on a bush road in Northern Ontario, there’s one thing you notice very quickly, other than they’re not paved, and definitely not flat, there are no road signs. Actually, there isn’t even a road sign to let you know if you’re on the right road. Which of course means you’re on a very bumpy adventure where you will be second guessing yourself from the time you turn onto the road until you get back to the highway.
I was told the mile marker to turn off the highway at, and to follow the road. What they didn’t tell me, was after about ten km there’d be a cross road. I had to decide which road to take.
In life we face many cross roads, and there are not always clear markers to tell us which one to take. Both look like good options, how do we decide which road to follow? How do we know when we’ve made the correct decision? This week as we travel along the road of Lent, heading towards Easter we’re going to take a look at some of the cross roads we face, and how to make wise decisions with Rev. Jim Johnson.
