Running on Empty

Our Sermons

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but on the dashboard of your car or truck there are  a number of small gauges and one of them tells you how much gas there is in your gas tank. The shape varies between manufacturer and type of vehicle, however they all have an “F” and we can all agree that it stands for “FULL”, at the other end there’s an “E”. There is some controversy as to what the “E” stands for, some say it means “Empty” while others think it stands for “ENOUGH”. For example I have enough gas to get me from Baxter to Toronto, or Niagara Falls.

The purpose of the gas gauge is to let us know when we’re running out of gas and we need to get more fuel. It would be great if our lives came with one of these gauges to let us know when our tank is almost empty. Unfortunately, all too often, we find ourselves “Running On Empty” and the result is exhaustion and a feeling of hopelessness. Yet in the midst of this emptiness, we find that God’s power is perfected in our weakness, offering hope, love and strength.

Join us this Sunday morning with Rev. Jim Johnson as we take a look at John 6 and discover how we can overcome this empty feeling.
