Remember the song “The Twelve Days Of Christmas”. The twelve days begin after Christmas and are a countdown to Epiphany when the wise men are said to have come to visit Jesus. Monday January 6 is Epiphany which makes this Sunday, Epiphany Sunday. Some cultures don’t give gifts on Christmas, they exchange gifts on Epiphany like the wisemen did.
What stands out for me, about the wise men, was their faith. Theirs was a strong faith that moved them from where they were, in the safety of their comfortable houses, to set out on a journey of over a thousand miles to visit a poor family, in a small town, in a small country. This was a serious search they went on, it was not a joy trip, something on their bucket list … it was a long difficult journey to find a king, that was announced in the stars, They didn’t know his name, or where they would find Him, but they were determined to find this new born king so they set out and followed His star.
This week Rev. Jim Johnson will be looking at the faith of the Magi that will move us from where we are to where we should be.
