I remember lying in the hospital bed way back in Grade 13. I was having an operation on my knee. The nurse gave me the pre op cocktail and left while it did it’s work. A student nurse walked into the room and I asked, “Is this a normal reaction?” From her panicked look and fast action, I knew it was not …
Is this a “normal reaction” what is normal, when you’re sick there is a sense of relief when your temperature is back to “normal”. When things go wrong, and we find ourselves in the midst of chaos we long for life to “get back to normal.”
But what is “normal”? I don’t think Whoopi Goldberg came up with it, but the web site I was at, credited her with saying “Normal is just a setting on your washing machine.”
Hopefully, we will be able to find out what “Normal Is”. In 1 Peter 2:9 KJV says … “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people …” In Titus 2:14, Paul says that Jesus … “gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
So as Christians the Bible describes us as peculiar … not a good start to the new year … so, if we are a peculiar people, does that mean that we are not normal, or does it mean that the Christian normal is different from the world’s normal?
Please join us this Sunday morning as Rev. Jim Johnson leads our worship service and expands on “What is Normal?” Our service begins at 10:30am and if you are unable to join us here in Baxter please check us out online here.
