The Heart of Worship

Our Sermons

Sunday mornings can be quite hectic, running around trying to get everyone in the car, then following the detour signs desperately trying not to be late again. Finally slipping into your seat and realizing in your rush, you forgot to comb your hair, and you’re wearing mismatched socks. You have a million thoughts racing through your mind, you have people coming for supper, and you forgot to get the steaks out of the freezer, you need to stop and pick up something for dessert. You glance over and give your children “the look” to get them to stop pushing each other. The duty elder goes to the front and you secretly pray the minister won’t be too long winded today because there’s a game on and you want to get home in time for the 1:00 Germany game in Houston.

When we come together on a Sunday, worship won’t be perfect, someone will sing off key, children and maybe even some adults will get a little noisy, the minister may say the wrong thing, the person beside us may have forgotten their deodorant, but what’s really important is focusing on God. That is the heart of worship, not the songs we sing, the clothes we wear, not even the version of the Bible we use, but the intent of our heart.

Join us this week with Rev. Jim Johnson and if you have time please stay and enjoy a time of fellowship in Celebration Hall after the service.
