Good Friday
What is GOOD about GOOD Friday? It is a question we have asked many times.
First, Good Friday is the day when we celebrate the death of Jesus on the cross. We celebrate it because God sent His only Son to deliver us from all our sins. This was the biggest sacrifice He could ever give us. This is a reason to celebrate!
So, what is Good about Good Friday in 2020? Not much. We have a pandemic that has overtaken the world. We have people dying at a rate that is hard to fathom. Families are divided and unable to be with those who are ill, or those that are perfectly healthy. The isolation is immense, some people have not had human contact for weeks.
Recently, I asked a nurse, who was administering the COVID19 tests, what the most interesting conversation she has had with people who are coming in to get tested. Her response was, “An elderly gentleman who was all alone came for the test because he wanted someone to talk to him and touch him.” It was a good deal for him. He got to fill out a form. His vitals were taken and off he went. All he wanted was human contact.
It was a good day for him. Yes, from all appearances Good Friday is not a good day. Christ was crucified … but … Sunday is coming! Rev. Jane
