Quite a while ago now, the P.C.C. joined with the P.C. U.S.A. to hold a youth event called Triennium. It was held every three years at Purdue University in Pennsylvania. At the time we lived in Kapuskasing, a small remote town of about 12,000. Trish, was the only one of our youth interested in going. Her parents drove her to Timmins, she flew to Toronto and then to Perdue. It was the first time she had travelled on her own.
When she arrived at the University, it was a dull miserable rainy day, and there was no one around. She told me, she didn’t know anyone who would be there, and didn’t know where she was supposed to go. Trish said it was the most uninviting place, she was depressed, lonely, and just wanted to go home. As she stood in the rain feeling miserable, someone leaned out a dorm window and yelled TRISH!! Apparently her cousin from a small town in Southern Ontario just happened to look out the window at that time and saw her. Trish said that moment changed everything, and she felt like she belonged.
I’m sure all of us at some point in our life have felt lost, alone and out of place. This Sunday we are looking at getting “Back Where We Belong.”
