Christmas is over, for some, the decorations are already down, and the house is once again pristine. Then again, perhaps Christmas is not just one day … maybe it’s something more.
After the visit of the 3 spirits, Scrooge’s attitude changed, and he said; “I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach.”
Every year Linda & I love to watch Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”. I know that it’s just a story, but the message is true. Christmas is a time of change … it holds out the opportunity for us to become new again offering us a chance for… a change of heart, a change of mind, and a change of life. Paul said something similar in 2 Corinthians 5:17 “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!“
Scrooge who said that Christmas was a “Humbug”, and lived his life accordingly changed. When he woke up on Christmas morning, it was “A New Day” Everything seemed brighter, more alive. There was hope, there was joy, and there was love. And it was a real and lasting change. At the close of the movie, Scrooge’s nephew Fred said of him, “He knew how to keep Christmas well … may that be truly said of us.”
The thing is, Christmas is a time of change and it’s brought about not by 3 ghosts but by the Holy Spirit. The change He brings is lasting and can alter our outlook for a lifetime.
